TAXI'S:
There are two types of taxi operating on Phuket Island:
(i) "LOCAL" TAXI's:
These are ordinary cars licenced to operate as a taxi and which you can get from roadside counters, hotels, the Airport, etc..
Similar to Tuk-Tuk's you need to agree the fare BEFORE you make the trip, and it's wise to inspect the vehicle to satisfy yourself that it looks safe and also what you want, such as air-conditioned.
Many local taxi drivers tend to drive very fast which is not only dangerous but also uncomfortable.
If you are thinking of doing a "personalised tour", or trip, anywhere then we would strongly recommend that you use our hotel taxi as we can then instruct the driver as to your exact requirements. Should you wish to alter anything whilst en route - and the driver dose not understand what you wish to do - then he will use his mobile phone to contact our hotel so you may talk directly to our Receptionist and get him to explain to the driver what you wish to do. You then have the comfort of knowing that you always have a direct contact with the hotel should you need it.

(ii) METER TAXI's:

These are easily recognized as they have a "TAXI-METER" sign on the roof of the vehicle. They're mainly seen at Phuket Airport and in Phuket Town, but they're now becoming more common around the island and especially at the main holiday beaches. As indicated, these taxis use meters for most journeys, but you can negotiate the fare for longer trips.
